With more people covered by health insurance since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, Washington state expects to see an increase in people who are able to access mental health or substance-use disorder services, potentially putting a strain on the existing Chemical Dependency Counselors. Licensed mental health therapists are natural candidates to serving additional patients in this area, but many would benefit from additional training opportunities. By providing additional training to licensed mental health therapists, the residents of South Snohomish County accessing these services will be better supported.
