Access to basic resources can greatly impact quality of life for our residents and community-based organizations play a crucial role in bridging gaps for those in need. This month, we highlight the organizations that do this important work.

Prescription Drug Assistance Foundation (PDAF) helps people in Washington obtain medications they otherwise couldn’t afford. By supporting anyone in need, PDAF offers a lifeline to those who might otherwise go without the medications essential for their well-being. Annually, PDAF helps over 90 South Snohomish County individuals obtain over $2 million in life-saving medications, alleviating financial burdens and improving health outcomes. Visit the PDAF website for more information and how to contact them. PDAF recommends gathering a list of medications before calling.

Project Girl Mentoring Program addresses the mental health challenges facing young women of color, such as physical and social isolation, stress, anxiety, and depression. Each year they support 145 girls and their families through holistic mental health and wellness mentorship, counseling and workshops. Project Girl equips participants with the skills to manage their mental health, overcome trauma, communicate effectively, and build healthy relationships. Programs are also available to support parents. Registration for programs is available on their website.

Washington Kids in Transition plays a vital role in alleviating food insecurity among families with children residing within the Edmonds School District boundaries. Through their initiatives, which focus on unhoused families, families gain access to fresh produce, dairy items, and snacks that strive to be nutritious and culturally relevant. This summer, they will serve about 65 families each week. This program guarantees that families can access essential food resources and lead healthier lives. Visit their website for more information.

Share these organizations with those in need and consider donating or volunteering to help these organizations sustain their work and expand their reach. For anyone who needs help connecting to resources in any of our priority areas (Healthcare Access, Mental Health, Food Security), a few additional options are listed below that can help.
