Snohomish County Health Initiative

Program funded: January 2016 – December 2017

With support from the Verdant Health Commission and to encourage kids to get active and eat better, Camp Fire of Snohomish County is supporting boys and girls where they’re based: in schools throughout the Edmonds School District, homes, churches, and at housing complexes, particularly those that serve low-income families or provide subsidized housing.

Camp Fire instructors visit 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms where they teach Energy Balance. The Camp Fire clubs meet regularly in homes, churches and housing complexes and educate kids using games and hands-on learning. On a sunny August day, a Lynnwood-based club met to discuss where and how fresh foods grow. The lesson included planting a container garden with herbs and the elementary school-aged kids were responsible for watering and caring for them.
