Content focuses on whooping cough epidemic, Verdant programs
LYNNWOOD, WASH. – This week South Snohomish County residents will receive a copy of The Canopy, the new publication of the Verdant Health Commission, encouraging everyone to get vaccinated against whooping cough. This first edition of The Canopy will also include an update on the programs Verdant has funded, information about the Board of Commissioners, a financial summary and a message from Superintendent Carl Zapora.
The Verdant Health Commission was created as the new program of Public Hospital District No. 2, Snohomish County in 2011 and has been supporting health and wellness programs that empower residents to make healthy decisions and choose a healthy lifestyle within South Snohomish County since. In the fall of 2012, Verdant launched a whooping cough education and outreach campaign in partnership with the Snohomish Health District and other local organizations.
“Whooping cough is at epidemic levels in our community, and it’s critical that all adults, teens and preteens get the booster shot to protect themselves and protect those around them, particularly babies,” Zapora said. “We are using this edition of The Canopy to promote this great need, and we hope it will remind people that now is the time to get vaccinated.”
The Canopy also is intended to share information about the programs Verdant is funding. Anyone with questions or interest in learning more about these programs is encouraged to contact Verdant at (425) 582-8558.
