Student Support Advocacy Program

Program funded: January 2014 – December 2016

Student Support Advocates within the Edmonds School District, which serves almost all public school students within Verdant’s service area, work to connect students needing additional support with resources in the community. Oftentimes middle and high school students who are struggling in school are facing obstacles outside of the school setting that may impact their health and well-being. One of the program’s most important focuses is on early detection and treatment of drug/alcohol use and mental health issues. Advocates work with the students referred to the program to build rapport, assess their needs, communicate with families and navigate the various systems needed for assistance. These relationships are often maintained throughout the student’s middle school or high school years, providing the student with a trusted, consistent resource.
