Get Movin’

Program funded: Summer 2012, 2013

Looking for a way to be physically active with your kids and teens during the summer? Get Movin’ is a free program with incentives and ideas to get kids moving 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week, all summer long. Participants are able to track their physical and recreational activities and redeem reward coupons for free swimming, ice skating, rock climbing and other fun activities. This program launched in Snohomish County in 2004 in response to the steady rise in childhood obesity and chronic disease. It has grown since, serving more than 3,000 participants in 2010. It is open to all kids and families. Verdant funding has also been used to develop, Get Movin’ Fit, which offers kids expanded opportunities to be active during the summer.
